CALL FOR PAPERS

The conference seeks to convene Latin American philosophers and legal
scholars devoted to the study of the epistemological aspects of the practice
of law, or whose experience in the legal field is relevant to legal
epistemology, One of the goals of the conference is to build an academic
community of Latin American scholars interested in legal epistemology, and
to provide a space for the discussion of current work on the subject. Among
the topics suggested are the following:

• Legal reasoning and legal rules of inference
• Burden and standards of proof
• Criteria for legal relevance
• Scientific evidence
• Expert testimony
• Evidence, causation, and responsibility
• Epistemic and procedural virtues
• Presumptions
• Bayesian vs. non-Bayesian approaches to the Law
• The relation between legal and social epistemology

Submission Guidelines
Please submit an abstract in Word, PDF, or RTF format. The abstract should
be between 500 and 1000 words, and it should present the main argument of
the paper. The allocated time for delivering contributed papers at the
conference will be 40 minutes, including discussion. The language of the
conference is Spanish.

The submission deadline is April 15, 2013.

Accepted abstracts will be announced on May 1st, 2013
