Assistant Professor of Philosophy (tenure stream)

The University of Pittsburgh Johnstown invites applications for a
tenure stream position of Assistant Professor of Philosophy, effective
August, 2012.  An area of specialization and teaching  in Value Theory
with ability to teach Bio- or Medical Ethics at the introductory
undergraduate level is preferred, but strong candidates in other areas
of specialization who can also teach Value Theory and Bio/Medical
ethics will also be considered.  The appointee must be competent to
teach the full panoply of introductory undergraduate courses including
Introduction to Logic and History of Modern Philosophy.  The
successful candidate will also  advise  undergraduates and pursue an
individual research program.  Serious preference will be given to
candidates educated in, and working in, the Analytic Philosophical
Style. The teaching load is four courses per semester, with two or
three course preparations each term.

The qualified candidate must have the Ph.D. by the time of
appointment.  Qualifications other than the degree and specialization
noted above include college teaching experience in relevant course
areas; evidence of teaching effectiveness; commitment to teaching
excellence; and strong potential for sustained scholarly achievement.
