Posted: 11 de September de 2011 by Fernando Furtado in Event
Created in 2009 by a group of philosophers and immunologists, the seminar Philosophy & Immunology is held once a month at IHPST in Paris. Previous speakers include Rick Michod, Irun Cohen, David Napier, Gerard Eberl, Jules Hoffmann, Anne Marie Moulin, and many others.
Among the issues discussed are the following: how to define immunity? What do the immunological notions of self and nonself mean? What is immune “tolerance”? Is there an immune “memory”? Can immunology contribute to a reflection on biological identity and individuality?
Details on this seminar, including the program, abstracts, sometimes PDF presentations, etc. can be found here:
The first speakers in 2011-2012 are:
– September 8: Joachim Kurtz (University of Münster)
– October 20: Eugene V. Koonin (National Center for Biotechnology Information, National Library of Medicine, NIH, Bethesda, USA)
Everyone is welcome in this seminar. Please feel free to contact me if you have any question.
Thomas Pradeu (Associate Professor, Paris-Sorbonne University, Paris, France).
